We are delighted to announce that Miller has signed up for the Better Health at Work Award (BHAWA), a regional scheme in partnership with the NHS which recognises and endorses workplaces that motivate employees in developing a sustainable culture of health and wellbeing.
In 2016, 137.3 million working days were lost due to sickness or injury in the UK and 15.8 million of these were lost due to mental health issues including stress, anxiety and depression. Promoting a healthy workplace has considerable benefits for both employees and employers, and can lead to decreased absenteeism, increased productivity and improved performance as well as enhancing an organisation’s reputation and standing with staff, stakeholders and the wider community.
By joining this scheme, Miller will help to encourage a healthy workforce and address health issues within the workplace whilst striving to win awards on an annual basis. The award covers a range of areas including, but not limited to, physical activity, healthy eating, mental wellbeing, smoking cessation, alcohol and sexual health. There are four levels to the Award – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Continuing Excellence, with appropriate criteria at each stage to build and Award Portfolio. Miller employees will be asked what they would like to see in terms of health initiatives for 2019 and Miller will choose three to focus on throughout the year and use the resources provided by the BHAWA to support them.

In addition, five employees will volunteer to become Health Advocates who will act as a point of contact with their NHS Workplace Health Specialist and liaise with employees to ensure the health initiatives that they are delivering meet expectations to drive a healthier, happier workforce.
