This year Miller UK has introduced the Northumberland Health Care Trust’s Healthy People Healthy Business programme into the company. Its aim is to encourage workers to develop healthy lifestyles through various campaigns, promotions and information allowing them to make more informed choices.

The programme has three levels of achievement Bronze, Silver and Gold awards which are given to companies who can demonstrate evidence of improvement and Miller UK are now working towards gaining the Bronze award in recognition that as an employer the company is giving the employees the opportunity to be fitter and healthier.

There are appointed Health Advocates within the company who work with the Care Trust to collect information and evidence for the awards. The advocates attend mentoring days with the Care Trust and actively involve staff in planning activities and campaigns.

The programme has been introduced to many companies throughout Northumberland who help and support each other via the Health Advocates, this network allows companies to share experiences and best practice.

Over the coming months Miller UK will be promoting various topics of health and well being one Wednesday in every month under the name of Well Wednesday.

Campaigns:

  • Received The National Clean Air Award, for implementing effective workplace no-smoking policies.
  • In support of the non smoking legislation we have offered counselling sessions to those who are trying to give up smoking
  • Every Wednesday for a month the company is supplying free fresh fruit for all the workforce encouraging people to eat more fruit and remind them that we should be eating at least 5 portions of fruit a day.
