Tell us about your career progression within MillerMy journey with Miller began with a twelve month industrial placement to compliment my study towards a mechanical engineering degree. From my very first day, I was assigned an exciting project that involved working closely with a number of departments and it quickly provided exposure to the day-to-day operations of the business. This, in hindsight, was the perfect way to start.
Upon completion of the project I moved into Miller’s design office. Working within the professional design team at Miller constantly pushes you outside of your comfort zone by challenging you to find innovative solutions to interesting and unanticipated problems. Miller’s continued support has allowed me to begin further investigation into a feasibility study, assigned during my placement, which will be used as part of a dissertation module on my return to university.
What do you enjoy about working for Miller?Miller pride themselves on superior quality and innovation, that makes an inspiring environment for a young engineer, as management are approachable and always willing to assist with your ideas. Over 40 years of experience in the industry has filled the company with expertise and everyone is passionate about passing on their knowledge. What’s also clear is that Miller understands that respect for the physical and mental wellbeing of its staff is an essential factor in achieving success and for me that is massively important.
How does Miller support your career development?Miller have been excellent in listening to what my personal goals are and understanding the steps I have needed to take to achieve them. Keith Miller often talks in depth about his ethos of ‘work hard, play hard and give something back’ and it’s easy to see how this message has filtered through to all corners of the company. I was told from the beginning that working at Miller requires responsibility for your work as nothing is going to be handed to you on plate, but the resource and knowledge that is available to you here will help make huge strides in the development of your career, so long as you are willing to put in the effort.Go To Next Story
